The past, present and future of a community are its people. That
is why at Plaquemine Bank we don't just serve our community, we
represent our community.
Our employees live in and around
Plaquemine. We attend Plaquemine churches. Our children attend
Plaquemine schools, just as we did when we were children. We
contribute our time to local organizations such as the
Iberville
Parish Relay For Life, The
Iberville Chamber of Commerce, The Knights of Columbus, The
March of Dimes and Kiwanis to ensure that Plaquemine will grow
and become richer. We sponsor Reading is Fundamental and local
art shows to encourage independent education and artistic expression
in this, our neighborhood. Our employees number among the members
of every local church, their choirs, the Plaquemine Garden Club
and even important positions within our local education system.
These activities are part of the life of our community and are
therefore fundamental to the life of Plaquemine Bank.
International Acadian Festival
The International Acadian Festival
was founded in 1969 by Gary Hebert and sponsored by the Knights
of Columbus Council #970. At that time, Mr. Hebert held the office
of Grand Knight of Council #970. The festival is held every year
in October to commemorate the arrival of the Acadians in Louisiana,
and to re-enact the arrival of Evangeline on the waters of historic
Bayou Plaquemine. The legend of Evangeline states that she traveled
by bateau on the waters of the bayou to find her soul mate and
fiancée',
Gabriel, with whom she had been separated. This re-enactment takes
place immediately following sundown in the bayou at the Plaquemine
Locks. The waterway is illuminated with torches so that Evangeline
can be seen as she is steered along the bayou, searching for her
one true love, Gabriel. In addition to this beautiful re-enactment,
the Festival also has a large parade, which rolls through the historic
district of Plaquemine and a three day carnival complete with rides,
amusements, live music entertainment, and good old-fashioned Cajun
Cuisine. |
